Comin’ atcha late tonight for a roundup of this week’s new finds and favorites! Hope your weeks are wrapping up well and you have lots to look forward to this weekend! I’m getting up bright and early Saturday and heading up to Wisconsin to do some group training at a Bachelorette party (such a cute idea!) I had a blast putting together the workout for these ladies and can’t wait to sweat with them tomorrow! The rest of Saturday will be a mix of cleaning, errands, maybe some meal-planning, followed by a graduation party in the evening. Sunday, I’m excited to do some bridesmaid dress shopping for my best friend’s wedding! On to today’s post- here’s some things I’m lovin’ on this week!
Coconut oil in smoothies + a new smoothie concoction
I’ve often heard the benefits of incorporating coconut oil into your diet, and while I do often use it for cooking purposes, I haven’t used it much beyond that. I decided this week to start adding a tablespoon into my morning or post-workout smoothies, and I am loving it! (Especially when this morning’s breakfast smoothie tasted like banana coconut heaven!) Since coconut oil is full of healthy fats, adding it to your smoothie can help slow down the sugar absorption from all the fruits. Plus it adds creaminess and a punch of flavor- what’s not to love? Coconut oil will be making more appearances in my meals from now on!
Oh, and a little bonus recipe for you- here’s the smoothie I whipped together this morning:
- 1/3 cup almond milk
- 1/3 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 1 banana
- 1 tbsp coconut oil
- 1 tbsp all-natural peanut butter
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
Blend and enjoy!
Cafe Du Monde Coffee at Whole Foods???
This was a welcome surprise…On our grocery trip to Whole Foods last weekend, my husband picked up Cafe Du Monde coffee, which I had never noticed there before (maybe because we typically get our coffee from Trader Joe’s). Given that we both LOVE New Orleans and just booked a September trip there, we were pumped to get our hands on this coffee! We’ve been enjoying it all week, strategically drinking from our NOLA mugs…now all we need is a little beignet action and we’re set!
Date Nights and New Restaurants
I always love a good date night, especially if it falls during the work week because I feel like it breaks up our normal routine and gives both my husband and I something to look forward to! Though we’re definitely “cook at home” people most of the time, we love getting out of our own neighborhood to try new restaurants. Back in April, Matt mentioned a new restaurant in Chicago’s Fulton Market neighborhood, Duck Duck Goat (same owner as Girl and the Goat). Since we both love Chinese food, we decided to get a reservation in the books, and lo and behold, there was nothing available until July! We snagged it. The restaurant was more casual than we anticipated, which we didn’t mind at all, but we did feel the seating was a bit more “neighborly intimate” than we prefer. I’m talking- person at the table next to me could mistake my wine glass for his- intimate. If you can get past the potentially close seating, the vibe of the place is cool, with really good music, high ceilings, interesting light fixtures, and traditional oriental decor embedded throughout. Our waitress recommended 4-6 plates for us to share, which we later found out, was way too much (for us), as we ended up taking most of our last 3 dishes home. I think if we go again, we’d opt to do one fried rice option, one “main” course (chicken or beef), and soup or something lighter to share. Here’s what we got:
I would definitely hit up Duck Duck Goat a second time, but again, would scale down on the number of plates. Not complaining though, dinner for tonight was set with all of the leftovers!
I have a handful of weddings and baby showers on the calendar in the next couple weeks/months, so rather than waiting til the last minute to go pick a ho-hum Hallmark card…I started looking for more unique, hand-crafted greeting card options! I picked a few up at Paper Source and then ordered some from Sugar Paper, an adorable LA based company. I love knowing my card won’t (at least I hope) be a replicate among the many cards that make their way through the mama-to-be’s and bride-to-be’s hands… Here’s a peek at some of my choices.
