Comin’ to you live from Omaha this Friday morning! We are here for a wedding on Saturday, but came in late last night so we could partake in all the rehearsal festivities! I absolutely love weddings and truly cherish the memories of our friends’ nuptiuals, since soon, the wedding years will be behind us! And now, for today’s post, some things I’m loving from the week!
Trunk Club Outing
I wish I would have snapped some more photos of my mom and I’s first experience at Trunk Club. For those of you who may have never heard of this company, Trunk Club is a styling service based in Chicago. The customer completes a style profile so the Trunk Club stylist can understand your specific taste in clothes, shoes, and accessories, as well as your wardrobe needs. If you’re someone who struggles with how to pair different pieces, or you just don’t know where to begin when you hit the clothing store, this is a great option! For Mother’s Day, I wanted to treat my mom to something different and when I found out my former co-worker now worked for Trunk Club, I thought this would be a perfect gift! We set up a date, my mom completed her style profile, and we opted to do the in-house experience (you can also have trunks delievered to you). My favorite aspect of this service is you end up trying on pieces you probably would never look twice at! Case in point- my mom ended up with the cutest pair of Paige jeans, and I can assure you, she would never roll through Nordstrom and pick those up on her own! Trunk Club makes a fabulous birthday gift or girls’ day out! If you go to the Chicago location, you can sip champagne up on the roofdeck- such a fun, girly experience! (Oh by the way, they do men’s styling too!)
Simple Salmon Dinner
You may have seen my Instagram post of this salmon dinner, but I had to share it again because it is a no-fail dinner in our house every time I make it! All you have to do is drizzle your salmon with olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and rub in some garlic (okay for me, it’s LOTS of garlic). Next, finely chop up spinach and red onion to layer on top the seasonend salmon. Finally, add on some chopped tomatoes (regular tomatoes, sun-dried, whatever you have on hand) and pop it in the oven! When the salmon is ready, you can add a bit of feta, or eat as is. I don’t know what it is about this dinner, but I just love it. And since we had all the ingredients stocked up, the only thing we needed for this meal was the salmon- which was on a great sale at Whole Foods. I paid $10 for 2 large piece of salmon, making this dinner super reasonable! (Think about the cost of a salmon dinner out!!!) This time around, we paired it with a quinoa, red onion, cucumber salad. So delicious and healthy- a win, win in my book!
I’m a self-proclaimed quote fanatic…I love reading inspiring quotes and when I come across one that speaks to me, I save it to my phone to look back on when I need a pick-me-up. This week, I saved this C.S. Lewis quote I came across on Instagram…super fitting for me as I am on a new journey, chasing after dreams that have been stirring for some time (blogging being one of them!) Needless to say, this one called to me and I had to share!
My father-in-law’s thoughtfulness
Whenever we come stay with my husband’s dad in Omaha, I know I’m in for a fun, albeit, manly time. My husband is one of 4 boys and trips to Omaha mean baseball, burgers, wings, whiskey, and Sports Center all day long. I wouldn’t trade it for the world- I love watching my husband back in his element, surrounded by his brothers, closest friends, and his family. My stomach isn’t always up to par with the Omaha pace though…and hey, that’s okay. I try to stay true to what works for me and my body and I’m blessed to have a father-in-law who takes the time to stock up on some healthy basics for me before our arrival. This trip was no exception…I woke up to a fridge full of berries, Greek yogurt, kale, and more. I made myself a delicious yogurt bowl with some natural peanut butter, organic honey, and granola. When you can stick to your “normal” routine on a trip, it makes you feel better so I am always so appreciative of this kind gesture.
Amazon Prime Free Book Rentals:
I’ve been an Amazon Prime member since I was in grad school and had a free trial, and I’ve always loved and taken advantage of the quick shipping, but boy, I must be behind because I had no clue you could “rent” thousands of books for free. I have a list of books on my to-read list, and just discovered last week I could rent them one at a time via prime. (Only one book per month I should mention!) I plan on using this feature every month now, reading all those coveted novels and fun books I’ve been itching to get my hands on… Hopefully, this helps someone else out there take advantage of this feature!
I was looking through my old workout pins on Pinterest and came across this stair routine from Shape magazine! My father-in-law’s new deck includes a nice long staircase, so I’m putting this workout to use while here in Omaha! I’m all for trying random workouts and I did gain a new-found love of stair workouts while on our recent trip to Mexico, as I used the Stair Master machine as my prime cardio there… Here’s the link for the exercises! http://www.shape.com/fitness/workouts/turn-your-stairwell-fat-burning-machine?page=2
And here’s the stairs I’ll be taking advantage of!
And with that, I’m off to enjoy this wedding-filled weekend! Have a fantastic weekend!
Question of the day: Do you switch up your workouts often, or stick to the same routine?
