Happy Friday! I hope you’re doing your Friday dance! I am really looking forward to a few fun things we have on the agenda for the weekend! We’ve got a date night planned and we’re also hoping to get into the fall spirit with some apple and pumpkin picking! Oh, and watching the Cubs has to get into the mix somehow! Anyway, on to new finds and faves for the week! Please feel free to comment with any new foods, products, etc. you’ve been loving lately as well!
Hilary’s Adzuki Bean Burgers:
Just yum. I am not one to typically head to the frozen section (except for ice-cream), but these have been on my radar for awhile and I see what the hype is all about! These black bean burgers are super flavorful and a perfect option for lunch at home or a quick dinner! Matt will sometimes need to attend work dinners, so from now on, these will be my go-to’s when I need dinner for one. I paired the burger with a cup of tomato soup and a small side salad with peppers and carrots. I scored these on sale at Whole Foods this week!
Pumpkin candles, mums on the porch, faux fur blankets…you name it, if it’s fall-esque, I’m loving it.
Pure Barre Training
I mentioned this earlier in the week, and I wish I took some more pictures to capture the weekend, but our Pure Barre training in Denver was such a great experience. I went in extremely nervous (and those nerves sent me into a no-sleep zone), but the group of women there were among the most positive, supportive women I’ve ever met. Words of motivation and encouragement flooded the studio and as we each individually taught various sections of class, we were met with reassuring nods and winks, followed by a huge applause at the end of our sections. There was no competition among us. We were a team, learning, growing, and fulfilling dreams together.
Simple Mills Pumpkin Muffins
These muffins are just too tasty! I snagged them at Whole Foods this week when I saw they were on sale (you can find them in the baking section- it is a boxed mix). Pumpkin season is limited, so I really try to take advantage of the tasty, yet healthy, options I can enjoy while fall is still here. This time around, I topped some of the muffins with Purely Elizabeth granola for some added crunch! These muffins are gluten-free, paleo-friendly (made with almond flour), and they contain only 6 grams of sugar per muffin. They’re easy to make and such a nice treat to wake up to on a cool, crisp, fall morning!
If you’re not foam rolling, well, all I can say is…you’re missing out. My dad has always been an advocate of self-care…in fact, he was laying on tennis balls and rolling out his shins before foam rollers were even a “thing.” I used to make fun of him, but now I know what a crucial part of any fitness plan self-care is. Since I knew we’d be exerting ourselves at training last weekend, I carved out time before we left to make sure I was keeping everything loose.
To make sure I am properly treating certain muscles, I like to schedule a time every few months at the Chicago Center for Myofascial Pain Release. The therapist I work with is exceptional, not only at treating muscle pain, but also at teaching you how to continue your care at home. I primarily use a foam roller, fit ball, and a back knobber. This week especially, my self-care has been so beneficial and I cannot recommend it enough! Definitely think about investing in a foam roller if you haven’t already. I found a great one at Marshall’s for $12!
Kiss My Face Sport Aluminum-Free Deodorant
Last week, I received 2 new aluminum-free, paraben-free deodorants from Kiss My Face. I’ve always been interested in converting to an all-natural deodorant, especially with the recent studies linking aluminum to various health issues. To this point, I’ve never found an all-natural deodorant that actually works for me, so although it’s been a goal to use as many all-natural products as possible, I couldn’t quite transition fully. I’ve been using the sport deodorant all week and I must say, I’m really, really impressed. It dries quickly, smells amazing, and for the amount of physical activity I do daily, I thought it held up quite well.
Coincidentally, this week, I began reading a book that looks at how various lifestyle choices contribute to brain power, memory loss, and overall health. One of the points brought up in the book is the link between aluminum in the body and memory loss. While I don’t want to get all scientific, the author of this book basically cautions that we avoid aluminium wherever possible, as aluminum seeping into our bloodstream cannot lead to any good. I encourage you to do your own research with regards to aluminum, as I am simply sharing information from my own findings, but knowledge is power. Read up on it, and I encourage you to give this aluminum-free deodorant a try! In fact, stay-tuned next week for a give-a-way with Kiss My Face’s two new deodorant sprays!
There you have it! A round-up of new finds and faves for this week. How about you? Any new things you’re loving?
Have a wonderful weekend!
