Hello there! I am so excited Thanksgiving week is here…Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday by far! We have a few, fun traditions that make this holiday extra special and I absolutely love the Thanksgiving spread my mom and aunts prepare every year! I also so appreciate this holiday because there’s no “gift” involved (no presents, no candy, no baskets…you get my point)…it’s all about gratitude and family!
This was definitely a fun little weekend that got me into the holiday spirit!
On Friday, Matt and I headed to an Indian cuisine restaurant. We had been there once before and although I remembered the food being a little spicy for my taste, I was eager to give it another try-I’m all about the experience. Our choices this time around seemed to be on the more mild side and I really enjoyed all our dishes!
After dinner, we headed home to watch a couple episodes of Game of Thrones (our current favorite).
Saturday, my girlfriends came over for some wine and apps before we headed out to the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival. This has been a tradition for our group of girlfriends for 3 years now and I am so happy we’ve continued with this annual event. Every year, it seems to be a different group of us that can make it, but it’s always such a fun time. Although we attempted to see the parade, the crowds were way too overwhelming, so we snaked our way through the crowds and decided to walk to the Christkindlmarket to take a peek around. Afterwards, we headed to Pops for Champagne for a few glasses of bubbly before our dinner reservation at Quartino.
I absolutely love Quartino and think it’s the perfect restaurant to go to with a group. The food and wine prices are super reasonable and the food is delicious. To start we ordered a meat and cheese platter that was so tasty. We also split a duck prosciutto pizza, a vodka sauce pasta, and a pappardelle pasta with braised beef tomato sauce. I really enjoy shared-plate styled restaurants because I feel you get a little taste of many dishes, but don’t leave feeling overwhelmingly stuffed.
We had plans Sunday to go see the Illumination Lights at the Morton Arboretum, but a couple errands ended up taking us longer than we thought. We still plan on going, but may push it off until a little closer to Christmas! Besides grocery shopping and other errands, I did some meal planning for side dishes I’ll be bringing to a Friendsgiving this week and to my mom’s house on actual Thanksgiving day. I’ve got three dishes I am super pumped to try out: a sweet potato casserole (this is a sweet one,so almost a dessert), a butternut squash with rosemary and cranberries dish, and a fresh n’ light Thanksgiving inspired slaw.
I also got my dinners planned for the week, though we obviously don’t need too many dinners covered:
- Sunday: Stuffed peppers (with ground turkey, black beans, and fresh salsa)
- Monday: BBQ chicken breasts with homemade sweet potato fries
- Tuesday: Maple glazed salmon with an apple and pecan salad
- Wednesday: Friendsgiving
- Thursday: Thanksgiving at Mom’s!
- Friday: TBD
What side dishes are you bringing to your Thanksgiving gatherings?
