Good morning! Hard to believe Thanksgiving has come and gone…luckily, I had a fun weekend agenda to keep me in the holiday spirit after Thanksgiving.
Friday evening, I met up with 3 of my girlfriends at Siena Tavern before we hit up the Chicago Theater for the Sebastian Maniscalco show. I was so excited to try out Siena Tavern for dinner, since the other times I’d been there were for lunch and for my husband’s work event, and only appetizers were served. The dinner did not disappoint and the ambiance was awesome, especially for this time of year- Christmas lights throughout!
We started with a delicious bottle of Pinot Noir and a Wagyu Beef Meatball to split.
For my entree, I decided to go with the seasonal Butternut Squash Tortellacci- absolutely delicious!
After dinner, it was off to the show…If you’ve never seen Sebastian Maniscalco, I highly recommend if you ever have the chance! He is hysterical and it’s true what they say, laughter is the best medicine-it’s seriously so much fun to just laugh uncontrollably! We also thought the local comedian who opened the show, Pat McGann, was awesome so I actually looked up his upcoming schedule. Hopefully, in the next few weeks, we’ll make it out to see him again as well.
Saturday began at Pure Barre for me with a good burn! Afterwards, I met up with 3 girlfriends at a nearby restaurant for mid-day drinks. One of my friends was in from out of town and it was great to catch up with all the girls and just relax! After our get-together, I treated myself to a Starbucks latte to power me through a late afternoon cleaning session. Since I knew we’d be putting up our Christmas tree on Sunday, I wanted to give our apartment a good cleanin’ so everything felt nice n’ tidy. I also put up a few decorations to prep for the incoming tree.
Sunday, we were up bright and early to go tree chopping with my parents, my best friend, and her family. Our two families have kept up this fun tradition for about the last 6 years.
We’ve tested out 3 different tree farms, all within the same general area, and have always scored some awesome Christmas trees. This year, our families made the picks in record time (usually we browse for quite awhile). I think since we headed out earlier in the tree-chopping season, we just had more options than we usually do!
The weather wasn’t bad at all, which made for a nice day of fresh air and some walking.
We’re saving our tree decorating for tonight…we want to replace a few of our lights before getting the ornaments on. But, we did get our tree situated and once it was up, I was all about Christmas and had to whip up a mug of hot cocoa and watch Home Alone (my favorite holiday movie by far and…fun fact… my uncle is in the movie!)
And now…for the weekly dinner menu! Kind of excited for this week- I found a few new recipes I’m pumped to try out…
- Monday: One Pot Pasta with Tomato-Basil Sauce from Southern Living Magazine
- Tuesday: Smoked Apple & Chardonnay Chicken Sausage with sweet potatoes and a side salad
- Wednesday: Slow Cooker Potato, Chicken, and Bacon Soup from Cooking Light Magazine
- Thursday: Cobb Salads (I’ll save half the bacon from the soup for this)
- Friday: TBD
Anyone else trying out new recipes this week and if so, where did you find your new meal inspiration?
