Happy Friday friends! I don’t know about you, but I’m really looking forward to the weekend. Although I’ll be working a bit this weekend, I’ll make the most of my free time…relax, maybe get out for a bike ride, and hang with my favorite guy. Tonight we’re planning on getting a few tacos and margaritas, and we may hit up a new ice cream shop afterwards (all about balance).
This week felt long…but, it was a good one. Throughout the week, I did get my hands on a few new finds and favorites to share with you. And, if you haven’t already, check out my new favorite products page. I’ll try to always keep an-up-to-date round-up of things I love on there.
JASON SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER
Okay, so I’m not really your hair-crazy kind of gal. 99% of the time, my hair is in a pony tail or tight bun. Although I don’t wash my hair more than twice per week, I do try to use shampoos and conditioners that have clean, gentle ingredients. This Jason duo was on sale at Whole Foods earlier in the week and I love it! I did a little mix and match with the selection they had available, but I must say, the restorative biotin one smells fabulous and my hair felt super soft after using both of these! Just thought I’d share in case anyone is in the market for a more natural hair care option!
This is a repeat photo from a post earlier in the week, but I can’t get enough of these sunflowers. I used to buy flowers almost every week when Matt and I were first married. I think flowers bring so much light and joy to a home. I knew I couldn’t keep my flower habit up every single week, so I started limited my beloved flower purchases to just once in awhile. Last week on a whim, I bought these on sale and seriously, they made me smile so much throughout the week. WORTH IT. No, I won’t go back to weekly flowers, but I do think it’s important to recognize these simple joys in life and savor them when you’ve got em.’ (So hey, if you’ve been holding back on a simple joy- flowers, a lovely scented candle, gourmet coffee, etc…here’s your permission to go treat yourself).
TRADER JOE’S ORGANIC TRIPLE FILTERED COCONUT OIL
I don’t know how long this option has been available at Trader Joe’s, but this is a new find for me and I am pumped for it! I love cooking with coconut oil, but I always felt limited in uses with regular coconut oil given the strong coconut flavor…no one wants coconut flavor in their eggs (unless you do and in that case, I pass no judgment). This triple filtered version allows me to use coconut oil in a wide range of recipes. There is no flavor or smell (at least for me there wasn’t) and I used it to cook my omelettes this week and it worked like a charm! This oil, as well as avocado oil are my new go-to’s for cooking.
ROOTZ NUTRITION SMOOTHIE
I’ve been enjoying this smoothie concoction on repeat this week, and yesterday, I think I hit recipe gold. I recently started incorporated Rootz Paleo Protein Superfood into my routine, and I love it. The ingredients are on point (and minimal which I love) and for an extremely clean, Paleo option, Rootz is also very affordable. I’ll do a more detailed post about the ingredients/incorporating protein into eating plans later. For now, here’s the recipe I used:
- 1 cup (or slightly more depending on how thick you like smoothies) almond milk
- 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
- 1/2 frozen banana
- 1 tbsp MCT oil
- 1 tsp peanut butter
- 1 tbsp Vital Proteins collagen peptides
- 1/2 scoop Rootz Banana Nut Protein
- Couple of ice cubes
Blend and enjoy this brain booster smoothie (as I call it!) You can snag a discount on Rootz products by using code activebyannie on their website.
OLD PLANK ROAD BIKE TRAIL
Last weekend, Matt and I loaded up our bikes (this is the bike rack we currently use) and headed to Historic Downtown Frankfort to hop on the Old Plank Road Trail. We’d been once before, and decided we’d use our open Saturday to hit a quieter trail. I absolutely love this trail for multiple reasons…first, there is easy parking- a free lot directly across the street from where you start the trail. There are also very nice, public bathroom facilities in this same starting location. Finally, and most importantly, the trail is wide, beautiful, and never overly crowded…a welcome change of pace from the busy lakefront path we usually ride.
On this particular Saturday, the trail was especially quiet, and I loved only hearing the birds and crickets, occasionally a rustling of leaves in the background. I felt like a kid of 12 again, riding freely, surrounded by greenery. Oh and you bet Matt and I raced a time or two during our 20 mile ride. Downtown Frankfort has some cute ice-cream/gelato options as well as some fun restaurants to grab a bite or a beer after your excursion. I highly recommend if you’re looking for a new biking option!
There you have it…a few favorites from the week! Would love to hear what you’ve been enjoying this week as well! Have a fantastic weekend!
