Good morning! Hard to believe it’s already Friday…I feel like this week flew by, but I am definitely ready for the weekend. This is the first weekend in awhile I won’t be working at all, so I’m taking full advantage…sleeping in, spending time outdoors, maybe some meal planning and prepping, and hopefully, decorating our porch for fall. Matt’s birthday is next week, but he’ll be out of town for work, so we’re heading out tonight for an early birthday celebration downtown! We’ve got a few other things on the weekend agenda…my cousin’s birthday party and watching the Husker game (obviously), so it should be a fun couple of days!
As usual, I’ve got a few new finds and faves to share with ya’ll today…
KITE HILL PROBIOTIC DRINKABLE YOGURT
This was definitely an impulse purchase, but I’m really glad it happened. Although I eat dairy products (mainly just Siggi’s yogurt, feta, and sometimes, organic half & half…oh yes, excuse me…and ice cream.) I am always open to dairy alternatives, particularly when they provide a benefit. This Kite Hill Drinkable yogurt is chock full of good bacteria, and not to be too specific, but after adding this to my smoothies this week, I feel like my digestion has improved.
I am always paying attention to my stomach and digestion, watching for bloating, cramping, etc. and I really noticed this aiding in digestion. Who knows if it was a combination of a few things, but I definitely recommend trying this. It doesn’t taste stellar on it’s own (the original flavor is unsweetened), but added into your favorite smoothie, it does add a lovely creaminess. I did have a glass of it plain, sprinkled with a bit of cinnamon, and although it’s not bad, I much prefer the smoothie route. Give it a try!
POPPY RIDGE PINOT NOIR
A couple weeks ago, I grabbed a bottle of this Pinot Noir from Whole Foods based solely on the label…poppies are just pretty, right? But, I really love the flavor and it’s got a great price point, so I’ve already stocked up on a few bottles. I’m sure this description is amateur at best, but I’d describe this as fruity and smooth. I feel myself starting to crave reds over Rosé as the temperatures start to drop and the fall air seeps in…I love pairing reds with our Italian dinners, there’s nothing quite like a delicious pasta dish paired with a tasty wine.
Yes, yes. I realize I am a bit premature pulling out fall decorations, but fall only last so long and I want to enjoy all things pumpkin as long as I possibly can. I’m actually a bit of a minimalist when it comes to holiday decorating, mainly because we live in a small apartment and just do not have the storage space to have a plethora of decorations. I find that seasonal flowers and candles are often enough to make our home feel holiday ready, no matter what holiday. But, I did find a few trinkets this year that I thought I’d share for those of you who go the simple route and may just want one or two decorative pieces. Target’s dollar section had some pretty legit Halloween/fall decorations that are (obviously) cheap and cute! My favorite was the small pumpkins shown above. (Side note: since the book is in the photo, The Boys in the Boat is one of my favorite books.)
Obviously a pumpkin candle is a must…I grabbed 2 of these Moonlit Pumpkin candles from Marshal’s the other day and I am obsessed with the scent!
SIMPLE MILLS PUMPKIN MUFFIN MIX
This muffin mix has definitely been on a Friday Favorites post before, but I had to share again because it’s just so freaking delicious. I was experimenting earlier in the week, trying to create a healthier pumpkin cream cheese frosting, and I obviously needed a base for the frosting. We’ve been eating the pumpkin bread all week for dessert and I cannot get enough…I foresee many more batches being made over the next couple months. You can find Simple Mills on Amazon, and I’m noticing the price is just slightly cheaper than at Whole Foods- perfect time to stock up! Another pumpkin must have- these Pumpkin RX Bars.
That’s it for this week- a few new things as well as some old friends making their seasonal debut. Speaking of favorites, I swapped out some products on my Favorite Products page to give you some new ideas and keep things fresh and relevant on here. Two of my must-have kitchen tools are now included! I hope you have a wonderful, relaxing weekend and I’ll see you back here Monday for weekend recap and our weekly dinner menu!
Question: What’s your favorite holiday to decorate for? Do you tend to go all out, or keep it simple?
