Happy, happy Friday everyone! I hope you’ve had a wonderful week so far. This weekend is shaping up to be pretty low-key since I will be working quite a bit, but I am hoping to get outside on Saturday and enjoy the (unusually) mild weather…I’m thinking a lakefront walk or jog to mix things up since I’ve been doing non-stop Pure Barre with our current 20 classes in 31 days challenge! We are also going to see my sweet cousin’s play at DePaul on Sunday, so I am pumped for that!
I’m excited to get back into some regular blogging, and wanted to start by catching you up on some of my recent finds and favorite things. Here are a few things from the past couple weeks:
I’ve always admired Matt’s passion for reading (he reads every, single night before bed) and although I read a good amount of books, I’ve definitely never been as avid a reader as he is. One thing I set out to do in 2018 (a goal I take week by week), is to read more, and to read a wide variety of genres.
I recently finished Memory Man, a fantastic murder mystery (part of a series). I am currently finishing up The Things They Carried, and next on my list is A People’s History of the United States, recommended to me by my uncle who is a political science professor. I’ll be keeping my Book Club page up-to-date with whatever books I’m reading, so definitely check the page out for ideas! (And if you have any good recommendations, feel free to send my way!)
Over the holidays in Omaha, we played this game with our friends at the cutest game board cafe. This is a great couples-night game option, as you can break off into teams to play (4-6 players is probably ideal). I love how this game requires some strategic thinking, both in the role of clue-giver (spy-master) and the guesser (field operatives). The spy-masters give 1 word clues to their field operative(s) to relate to one or more words on the table, but it can get tricky as you don’t want your field operative to guess the other team’s words. (I know I’m not giving a super detailed description, but trust me, it’s fun!) If you’re looking for a new game night option, I highly recommend this one! It’s currently available on Target’s website and on Amazon.
I’ve been trying to incorporate more plant-based meals into my weekly lunches and dinners and a recent recipe I tried (Warming Rainbow Pad Thai) called for hemp hearts. I had not purchased hemp hearts for awhile, so I was excited to grab a bag again and use them in smoothies, on yogurt, and in some hearty meals as well for an added source of protein. They’re a great plant-based protein option that also contain Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids!
The natural, aluminum-free deodorant search continues, but I think it may end here. To date…Native Deodorant is my favorite “clean” deodorant. I’ve tried so many options and the smell and effectiveness of this one is top-notch. I ordered it directly off their website, which you can access here. (Speaking of beauty favorites, the nail polish you see in this photo is Gel Moment, an at-home no-chip manicure set my mother-in-law sells. I LOVE it and I am going to do a post on how to use it soon! The polish is vegan-friendly and non-toxic, which I think is amazing. Check out her website here).
Warming Rainbow Pad Thai from Oh She Glows
By far, the best meal I made this week was this vegan, gluten-free Pad Thai dish from Oh She Glows. I ended up making quite a few modifications (I used sweet potato noodles, eliminated Maple Syrup and instead added just a bit of honey, etc.) since I didn’t have all the ingredients and also wanted to make it slightly less sugar-y. It’s such a colorful, tasty dish- perfect option for meatless Mondays!
Bulletproof Collagen Bars
I’ve been talking about these bars all week long, but seriously, the lemon cookie flavor is SO good. Such a perfect on-the-go, post-workout snack. They are a bit pricey, so it’s a splurge I’ll only make when they’re on sale, but definitely a fun switch up for this bar-lovin’ gal!
That’s it for me! Have an awesome weekend!
Question of the day: What book are you currently reading?
