Recent workouts, weekend happenings, weekly goals + dinner menu

Good morning friends! I hope you had a relaxing weekend! We had a low-key weekend, which was totally fine by me. As usual, I taught 2 evening classes on Friday, but the second class was especially energetic and fun, as five of my Pure Barre teammates took the class. Their focus, strength, and dedication, (coupled with eye rolls and laughter during certain exercises), made this particular class such a special one and I left the studio feeling extra grateful for my Pure Barre family.

After Friday evening’s Empower class…love these women!

Saturday I woke up bright and early to review for the 10:00 class I was teaching, then headed to the studio early to take an Empower (cardio) class before I taught. After teaching, I treated myself to an almond milk latte from Starbucks before tackling a quick Saturday grocery haul at Whole Foods.

Saturday night, Matt and I went to see the movie The Post (trying to get our Oscar-nominated films in). It wasn’t as suspenseful as I anticipated, but still an extremely well-done and interesting movie. Once we were home, we decided to watch another episode of the People V. O.J. Simpson (I know we’re extremely behind on this one, but I’m really intrigued by the series so far).

Sunday was a bit of a slower day…we made smoothies early in the morning, relaxed with coffee, did some laundry, and then headed to Whole Foods to grab some more things for lunch and for our dinners this week. Usually I walk away from Whole Foods with one “impulse” buy and this trip was no exception- I’ve heard many things (both positive and negative) about Bulletproof collagen bars,  I just had to try one myself (because they were on sale). I actually really liked the lemon cookie flavor. It was not the texture I was expecting (I envisioned it being chewy like RX Bars), but I thought the flavor was incredible. The texture is closer to that of a dense cookie. Worth a try in my opinion!

My one impulse buy at Whole Foods and I really, really enjoyed it!

Our late afternoon was filled with football, but we both managed to squeeze in a workout. (I did a 21 Day Fix Extreme workout in the living room- videos are great options if you’re a mom who needs to fit in exercise while your little ones nap, if you’re on a budget, or if you just prefer a fast, convenient workout that requires no travel.)

Speaking of workouts…both the studios I teach at are currently running challenges, so my workouts last week were all  Pure Barre (which makes me very happy)…I doubled up one day (doing both classic + empower), so my muscles were workin‘ all week long. I love when studios run challenges because it gives clients (and teachers) that extra push to show up. After a slow start to the New Year (because of the flu), it felt really awesome to tackle a full week of workouts. Remember, it’s so important to celebrate the little victories. Take time to be proud of yourself and reward yourself with something small when you achieve those small wins…a latte, a bubble bath, a face mask are all great ways to celebrate your hard work!
