All it takes is a few days of spring-like weather in February and I’m already thinking about swimsuits, wide brimmed hats, and sunshine. While I know these unseasonably mild temperatures in Chicago will be gone in a flash, I also know spring really is around the corner.
I am definitely not a big spender on clothes (mostly because I live in leggings and workout tees), but every year I do like to bring a few fresh items to my closet. There are a couple of pieces I have that seem to carry through year after year, so today I thought I’d share a few tried and true items I wear over and over, as well as a few things on my wishlist. Here’s to warmer days ahead!
Items I wear year after year:
Wide brimmed hat – this hat is my absolute favorite (pictured above). I’ve been a fan of wide brimmed hats for a while, but this one is the best I’ve owned to date. I wore it a ton last year and plan to do so again this spring/summer. It comes in a few color options and is really high quality! I also love this one.
Jean shorts – I lived in jean shorts last summer. I must admit, I haven’t found that perfect pair quite yet (my pair from last year are from Loft and I love the distressed look, but they do fit a bit loose around the waist). I have my eye on this pair and this pair and plan to try them both out.
Slip-on sandals– I tend to favor simple slides as opposed to anything lace-up, or gladiator style. This pair (in white) is super similar to the pair I purchased and wore all last season. These sandals are a great, inexpensive option and I love these ones and these ones as well.
Birkenstock Arizona sandals – since I do quite a bit of walking on a day to day basis, supportive sandals are a must. My mom is actually buying me these Birkenstocks for my birthday, but I plan on getting fitted at the actual Birkenstock store so I know I’m wearing the right size/width. I love these and have thought for years they are so practical, yet cute, so I’m pumped to finally own a pair!
Maxi dresses – I really don’t own any simple, cotton maxi dresses to throw on for a summer evening dinner or for a trip to the beach. I remember several occasions last summer when I wished I just had an easy, go-to maxi, so this year I plan to grab one or two dresses that I can wear to casual events, or just out and about. I love this one, this one, and this one. This Free People floral one is also darling for a dressier option.
Straw tote, purse, or clutch– I think straw totes and purses are so pretty in the summer. I love this one, but I assure you I would never pay that price (though if you order via Shopbop, you can get 15% off of $200 with the current sale). This petite one is darling, and probably the size I’d go for if I pulled the trigger. I think this sweet, little clutch for under $30 is a great compromise, as is this market bag from Macy’s.
What I’ve already bought:
One piece swimsuit – my aunt owns this cute one-piece swimsuit. Although I’m obsessed, I wanted to find something with a similar look, but within my price range (I tend to only wear swimsuits for a season or 2). I am obsessed with the look and fit of this Target one (pictured above). It is so comfy, runs true to size, and and it’s a fun alternative to a two-piece. Swimsuits and shoes are currently BOGO 50% off at Target, so it’s a good time grab swimsuits if you’re in the market!
